Emma Johnson, with the English Chamber Orchestra - produced on ASV and you get both Weber concertos and his Grand Duo Concertant as well.

My favourite recording has Walter Boeykens playing both concertos and the concertino, accompanied by the Rotterdam PO. It comes on a budget label (apex).

I'm curious as to what particular interpretative qualities you are looking for?
Of all the Weber recordings currently available, the performances (2 volumes of the complete Weber clarinet works) by Jon Manasse are about as close to my ideal of how Weber should be played as anything I've ever heard. Everything he brings to his interpretation (phrasing, tempi, expression, tone quality, the orchestral ensemble, etc...) makes this (for me) the definitve performance.
I own many Weber recordings by diverse clarinetists from all over the world. This is still the one recording I come back to, time and time again...GBK

diz...The "period instrument" performance that I find the most pleasing is Tony Pay's (with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment) Virgin Classics #VC 7 90720-2
Pay uses a copy (1983) of a 7 keyed (c.1800) Bb clarinet (with 2 extra keys to facilitate chromatics). The concert pitch used on the recording is A=430 ...GBK

My favourite is Michele Zukovzky and Zubin Metha, with the Los Angeles Philarmonic... This recording is available in www.mp3.com and is a excelent version...

I do own 2 recordings, the Jon Manasse recording, and the Tony Pay with his own Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment as cited by GBK. Honestly, I can not make up my mind between the 2. Manasse is probably more subtile, the balance between the soloist and the Broadway orchestra is very interesting with a very brilliant interpretation and powerfull sound from the orchestra that contrats a lot with the almost veiled sound of Jon. Tony Pay gives the clarinet much more brilliance, particularly in the altissimo register.
Actually, depending on my mind, I tend to favour one or the other!

Tony Pay doesn't own or direct the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, he simply plays in it.
Don't forget the abridged version by Charles Draper on Clarinet Classics label. Hold tight!!

When I said "his own Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment", I indeed meant he was playing with the orchestra not that he was owning or directing it. Being French, I sometimes don't matter all the subtilities of the English language, sorry!

Seems I can recall when Kell was about the only name clarinteist you could get "on records" and I thought everything he played was great...those were 78rpms too.
