 how difficult is it??

How difficult is it to learn the german/oehler system clarinet after studying only Boehm system? Some people I have talked with say it is relatively easy, while others say it is quite difficult. Is there that much of a difference? Any help would be great, and thanks!

As a long-time player of German/Oehler/Albert system clarinets I'm of the opinion it's not a difficult switch. I also play Boehm reasonably well. Make sure the instrument is in good repair, find a fingering chart (Rubank Elementary has one) and practice. Everyone has a learning pace, so who can say what 'relatively easy' is? As with any other skill development, it takes a certain amount of time :)

The switch shouldn't be too problematic provided you have a decent clarinet and a good mouthpiece. One thing that you may find is the sound is quite small but very pure, so the dynamic range is not so wide. Also make sure the pads are seating properly, for the smaller upper joint pads are quite tricky to keep in proper seating.

I hope you don't mind me asking but why do you want to change to the Oehler system?
