Bass clarinet (3rd time)

I wrote previously that I was having horible problems with the bass clarinet. I finally convinced my teacher to look at the instrument again (he had previously checked it). It turns out that the screw on the throat A key works it's way back in after playing for a short period of time and the tension on the spring was too light. Also, the long trill keys for the right hand are really loose so they don't always sit properly. We fixed as much as possible right before wind ensemble rehearsal, and I discovered that it is a lot of fun to play. I also found that I had the wrong idea for my embouchure. My teacher told me to "anchor to the top of the mouthpiece" and it helped a lot. Thanks for all of the advice. We leave on tour a week from tommorow, and I would have continued thinking that it was all a problem with me without all of the help.

It helps to have some basic knowledge about servicing your own instrument, huh? When someone tinkers with your horn, always find a way to look over their shoulder and try to remember what was done to fix the problem... now you're better able to help the next person with theirs.
