Can anyone tell me the age of my instrument. The serial # could be one of the following: 339G1, 739G1 or Z39G1. It's on the lower joint and is reasonably indistinct unfortunately. The clarinet itself is an Albert system of 14 keys with rollers and 4 rings. The "Buffet Crampon Paris" identification is on the bell and both joints.
I have checked the Bufffet site and there are many pages of numbers, but nothing like what is on mine. I have also asked a few colleagues and looked in a few books - all to little avail.
I'd appreciate someone's advice please.
Thanks.

I recently requested similar information for my old E&S clarinet directly from Buffet, with an e-mail address I found in the Buffet section of the Boosey & Hawkes web site. I received a quick and informative answer.

The Buffet list under "Equipment" on the Sneezy main page shows serial numbers 2G1 - 999G1 as made in 1912.

John -
Put a drop or two of water on the serial number area and scrub it with an old toothbrush. That will get the crud out of the stamping and let you read it better. Then take it to a window and look at it with the light coming from an angle.
Best regards.
