Two of the concertbands I play in are going to Europe in 2003 one to Barcelona.Temp. there would be around 30-35 celsius should I take my r-13 and reeds or rent a plastic and buy reeds there Ilive in Calgary. The other band is going to Japan or Europe don"t know were yet

Firstly, Congratulations. The experiences will last a lifetime.
Were it I, I would RENT or borrow a good VITO Plastic (they hold up to a good shipping beating) and buy two or three Fibracell reeds in strengths of your normal use (or equivalent--such as Medium, Medium Hard) with one slightly harder. I have found that after extended play they can "slacken off" a bit. They will aleviate the need to keep them constantly moist and also it is difficult to just pop into a music store in Spain and get the reeds of your choice. (I can't remember if there was one in Barcelona or not). Take time and adjust your setup before going. Take an extra ligature of your choice (lost screws and plates are difficult if not impossible to replace on the road). And be sure and take a botttle of LOMOTIL or some other "anti-squats" medication.(Olive oil get's to some people). Then relax and enjoy.
By the way, you'll love Barcelona. (I have never been to Japan though and envy you)

Have fun Traveling, as for reeds...... dont use cane. Go out and get a Legere Reed. They are the absolute best synthetic you can get trust me. There is no argument on this on, sorry guys!!

Does anyone here remember the white plastic reeds that came out during WWII? They were real bummers but cane reeds were so hard to come by we were forced to use them some of the time. Maybe I'll give the Legere a try.

Have tried both Legere's and Fibracell. My money goes to the Fibracells. The Legare split, got soft. The Fibracell costs about half and you can buy a couple or three and be sure. The tone is equal (IMHO) as it is not really "concert" work you are planning.

If you wish to call "Greenline's" plastic, you might be right. Plastic has been "bad-mouthed" on this BB for quite some time, but I'd rather travel with it, and enjoy peace of mind and the music, rather than take my R.Malerne out in the elements.
