This may fall into the anti-self-promotion catagory but there has been a huge surge in bulk purchases of my bore oil from others than repair technicians and restoration specialists.
This oil that I sell routinely is primarily formulated for replentishing the oil and maintaining moisture balance in woodwind instruments and not the only treatment used in my experimental work.
As I indicated in a previous thread the process is a work in progress and uses different formulations of oils and chemicals to hopefully restore the wood structure to accept further oil and moisture. Various oils have different hydration characteristics and penetration capabilities. By monitioring the moisture content
of the wood and the environment, different formulations and enhancing chemicals are added in a slow stepwise fashion. Again, this is a weird scientist at play and should not be tried in the family homestead.
I have spent too much time hopefully debunking many myths and fifth-hand hearsay about oiling woodwind instruments to create my own "Lazarus Legend" that does not work for many people because of the wrong approach and wrong formulation of oil for the purpose. This is a research project to develop new products for different purposes than the routine use and care oiling of woodwinds.
Thanks - The Doctor

Omar -
I would welcome comments from you and Greg Smith on oiling wood mouthpieces. Whether? How much? How often? Signs that oil is needed?
Thanks.

Dear Ken,
I do not own (would like to though) a wood mouthpiece and have therefore not done any experiments on them. Gregory Smith has a lot of experience with beautiful wooden mouthpieces and their behavior. I am not sure if he uses any oil on them or not but word has it that a well known mouthpiece blank manufacturer has a little vial of "magic" oil to use on them but I have not and will not analyze the oil for content (everyone must keep their own little bit of magic).
