How do I get my original Vandoren 5RV moutpiece to go black? It has gone a mutant brown colour

Search the board, it's been covered before.

To keep hard rubber mouthpieces from changin color, do not let them sit out in the light. Keep them covered when not in use.

Check the board about a page earlier--the thread entitled "50-50 bleach-water for mouthpiece?" And there may be other similar discussions earlier than that. My own conclusion, based on the various responses to the above-named thread (which I started) is that a good principle that might apply here is "When in doubt, don't do anything." Chemicals of one sort or another seem harsh and to have unknown consequences (or maybe the chemists know them, but I don't). I'd now say to just live with a discolored mouthpiece.

the brown/green colour is cool- there should be a posting on how to deliberately make it go that colour! I think Mr Bay does this deliberately to some of his mouthpieces and then charges more for it, so it may be top secret information.
one of my students the other day broke his mouthpiece, so i gave him one from my pile of "these are better than junk but not great" mouthpieces. He specifically asked for a green/brown one!
Herr Zinner produces some of his mouthpieces in a fabulous Green- "Katshaulk Grun" (sorry if my spelling is out). I asked him if he would make a french style blank in this colour/rubber and he said he could but i'd have to PAY extra $$$$$$$
easier to leave it out in the sun, i think (but then it will probably need refacing afterward)

(the Zinner green ones really do look quite cool though....)
