 cheap mouthpeice
Author: Amanda

I had a really great hard rubber but ANCIENT mouthpeice. In order to skip not playing while having to get it recorked i just bought a 10 dollar mouthpeice on impulse by "belmonte". I hadnt heard of this maker before and I am hoping that someone might have experience with this kind of mouthpiece. I dont see any problem with the sound but I am a little out of practice. Can anyone identify maybe a good reed/ligature combo. that would go well if you have had a mouthpeice like this?~~thanks in advance Amanda

If you intend top return to the exclusive use of your old "ancient" mouthpiece, then it would be unwise to expend too much time and money in finding the best "set up" for your Belmonte "cheepo." Start with the same lig and reed(s) that you use on your old mpc. and "go" from there. It would not be too expensive to buy a couple of softer or harder reeds for temporary use if your original reeds do not work quite right. I would recommend--not knowing what brand or facing your "ancient" model is-- that you continue to read the postings regarding mouthpieces and consider trying some new ones. Gregory Smith, as an example, is (IMHO) producing some of the best "custom" mouthpieces--in the styles of the old Chedeville and Kaspar legendary models--being currently offered. FYI--I play on an original Chicago Kaspar and a Greg Smith "Cicero Kaspar" Zinner custom and like both very much!!! But the bottom line is, if it plays good, it is good--and that's for you and your ears to decide. Many professionals spend their entire careers playing on the same mouthpiece because (1) it is a good one, and (2) they rely more on practice and innate musical talent to excell rather than on jumping at every new gimick that comes onto the market. So, if your "ancient" plays well for you and you like it, have fun with the Belmonte until its return but don't waste a lot of money on a new ligiture and boxes of new reeds. New mouthpieces???--TRY before you BUY. Hope this helps--Merry Christmas. Good Clarineting!!!!!!!!!!
