Hello: Just bought a new, old, Buffet Master Model. The case looks fine except its a bit soiled in the usual places. I've done a search and can't seem to find any threads on the topic - or products that folks have used with good results... Anybody have any suggestions.... Thanks !

Try the spray rug spot cleaner from Home Depot in the blue can. Good luck!!

I would avoid most anything in a spray can. The problem is most have fairly obnoxious chemicals that will linger in the fabric of your case for a long time and will be absorbed into your mouthpiece (if its a standard hard rubber) and into the wood. When I was in Jr. High I cleaned my case with a household cleaner and put up with a bad taste in my horn for about two years.
Simply use cold water anda simple liquid hand soap or a mild dish washing detergent such as Joy. Don't get it too wet and use a medium soft brush (a tooth brush will do). Dry it thoroughly with a hair drier set to medium and if you have a chance, let sit in the sun for a day (this will kill mold spores without chemicals).

If the case lining has a nap and if it is glued on, getting it wet might re-activate the glue which cold permiate the whole of the cloth and turn the nap into little firm spikes of fabric.
I have a circa 1926 C Melody Saxophone. It and the case were modly. I was told to get a new case when I reconditioned the horn because the odor would get into the new pads.
But, I tried sunning it for several days and that did not work.
I tried spraying it with a special fragrance Lysol. That did not work.
I finally sudzed it up with carpet cleaner, and used a moderate amount of water to rinse it out. I used a powerful wet-vac to suck up the water immediately. It was then placed back into the sunshine.
The resulst were that not all of the mold smell left, it had a Lysol residual odor to it and the nap is stiff.
The horn has never been back in the case since it was refurbished and it sits out on a stand next to our Conn organ.
