For those of you in the St. Louis area, the Town and Country Symphony Orchestra will be performing a free concert this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Ridgway Auditorium of The Principia, 13201 Clayton Road. The featured piece on this concert is the Beethoven Violin Concerto with Carla Trynchuk as soloist. A native of Canada, and graduate of the Julliard School, Ms. Trynchuk is currently Associate Professor of Music at Andrews University in Michigan.
She performed this concert Friday night with the St. Charles Symphony where I sat in as a sub and she was absolutely phenomenal! If you have nothing else planned today (the Rams are on Monday Night Football this week ;^) ), IMO, she is well worth the trip to hear. The rest of the program is the Handel-Harty "Water Music Suite" and Brahms' "Academic Festival Orchestra."
Best regards,
jnk

Jack,
Does the Muny still do Broadway Musicals all summer? I used to love to go sit in the free seats in the mid 70's. I was in dental school there and would walk over to the ampetheatre very early to get a seat. Then study until it got too dark, and stay for the show then walk home... it was wonderful. Always good music and cast. The last one I remember seeing was "The King and I" with Yul Brenner. The performance of "Kiss me Kate" was superb!
I can't remember if they had a live orchestra... I think they did, but the free seats were too far back to be sure. If you are sneaky you could bop down into vacant seats just before intermission... the ushers weren't up yet and you always got lost in the intermission crowd. I mean, someone could do that, ... I never would!
