 Is this a "pochette" case?
Author: Dave Beal

I'm looking for a new cover for the case of my R-13. It's the original case that came with the clarinet in 1970. It's small (about 15 by 8 by 3 inches), black, with very rounded edges and corners, and flared at one end, where the bell goes. It has a simple leather strap handle. Is this the case referred to as a "pochette"?

No. This is the older R-13 single Bb case. (I have two of them as well, but now use only double cases) The new style "pochette" case covers by Buffet will not fit this case.

One solution is to send a tracing of the case with all dimensions (LxWxH) to Cavallaro - They can custom make a case cover which will fit perfectly.

There are also many other manufacturers who make single clarinet bags to put your older style case in...GBK

I "second the nomination" for Altieri case covers. I've had two and am completely satisfied. They ask you to measure your case and then construct a bag to perfect dimensions. I have seen Cavallaro bags and Altieri seem to be built more sturdly. At least, the music compartment (back) and small accessories compartment on the front seem to be roomier--which is sometimes bad because we clarinetists tend to carry around too much unnecessary junk as it is. For example, I just "cleaned out" my double clarinet case and bag and found two tooth brushes!!! (I never play my instruments without first brushing after I eat) Like in musical phrasing, in deciding what gear is really necessary, we should try to remember that "less is more." My vote--Altieri!!! Good Clarineting!!

Ditto on Altieri- they custom-made a cover for my Rossi double case and were a joy to work with, delivered right on time. I had thought the older Buffet cases (circa early 70's) were pochette tho- I've ordered cases twice to fit my 1972 Buffet and I'm sure I got "pochette style"... The catalogues selling them should be able to tell you definitively.
