 ...and I placed!! I'm first alternate contrabass, and I know for sure that at least one person is dropping their slot for bass or Bb. (At least one because she told me so.)
 
 So I made Midstate!! It's not exactly Allstate, BUT... I have two more years ahead of me to advance! Hooray!
 
 I'm gonna be in a good mood for the rest of the week...
 
 So I've pointed out my main weakness. I "chirp", as my band director describes it. I didn't know that sounds that high could come out of a contrabass. Is this an embouchure problem? Do I need a softer reed? It happens whenever I jump registers. Should I just practice those jumps?
 
 (If this helps, I always have to sand my reeds before I play to get a decent sound because I can only get medium-hard reeds and I need mediums.)
