I have recently come across a clarinet from V. Kohlert's Sons in a Turner Musical Instruments Ltd leather case. It seems quite old but I don't know what circa. If you could give me any info. I would appreciate an Email.

Thankyou

Danny -
Is it an Albert, Boehm, Bb, A - other? What condition is the instrument, in your estimation? What kinds of markings are on it?

My best A clar. is a Kohlert, am not sure of vintage, but will find its ser.# if asked. I have several turn-of-the-century Albert-Mullers, so they made good horns for quite a while. See Czech ----- below for a bit more info. Don

In addition, check EXACTLY how the place of manufacturer is written and where it was made. I found with mine that it was helpful to note that Czecho-Slovakia was hyphenated. Checking with my local historian identified the time during which that form was used. In my experience, serial numbers on Kohlert clarinets are not terribly useful. From WWII on, they can get really difficult to pin down. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help. The serial number is 327375 but there is no other markings except V. Kohlert Sons engraved on the fluted end. Please pardon my ignorance. I picked it up at an auction because I thought it was interesting. I'm would like to know about it's age and value.

Given the small amount of information, all I can guess is: Age 50+ years old, value negligible. Play it and enjoy it.
