 Hey, long time no type!!

Well well well, it's been a long time since I posted anything here. I moved to college 2 weeks ago and I'm still working on getting my ethernet connected. Hopefully I can get it up tomorrow when I get back, but for now I'm back home for labor day weekend.. Things have been going pretty well...

Marching band is absolutely AWESOME. I thought I would hate it, but I love it now. Our first game was yesterday morning. I must say, that coming out of the tunnel into Kinnick Stadium to do the pregame show in front of 56,000 people was one of the coolest things I've ever done. Other than wearing wool uniforms and marching band shoes in 76 degree weather for 6 hours, it was awesome. And that I forgot sunscreen, so my face is burnt to a crisp today..

I auditioned for concert bands on wednesday.. I find out what ensemble I'm in (Symphony band, the best, Concert band, the middle, and U Band, the one you dont HAVE to audition for. I'm going to play soprano in U Band anyway, and bass in a higher band) on tuesday probably. I have a chance to get into the symphony anyway, my audition went well. Other than that the day I auditioned being a day from hell, I think it went ok. The director of bands seemed to like me, he did comment that he liked my sound on that old terrible horn. (As for the day from hell, I fell off my bike HARD onto a curb 45 minutes before my audition, I had to audition while I was bleeding and had some leaves still stuck to my shirt. I've got LOTS of bruises now. Also, the university bass clarinet I checked out for auditions...well, decided to break in the middle of the sightreading part of my audition. Both of the register keys started opening at the same time - I couldnt play anything above a throat A. I had to go check out a different bass, and go back and finish. It was bad. But I did good. I think.)

Other than that, um, college is ok. My first lesson is Wednesday, and I was given the clarinet TA for lessons (thank you god...). I'm a little nervous about that, but having a grad student for lessons is less intimidating than the prof. Clarinet seminar was VERY intimidating, it was me the freshman, a junior, a senior, about 6 or 7 grad students, and the professor. I felt WAY out of my league...

Anyway I'll hopefully be online again soon...I'll let y'all know what ensemble I got in...until then, wish me luck..bye.

Best of luck in finding out your audition results! don't worry about feeling out of your league either, I know thats how I felt when I first came to school last fall. But nowadays I realize that while some people are better players than I am, I still have just as much a right to be there as they do. After all we are all there because we want an education, and will still get it regardless of our chair position. But what really makes college easier is going out and making lots of new friends so go meet people and have fun! ~Cathy
