For anyone out there who has an 1193 bass clarinet and an ICON neck:
Have you done a weight comparison between your stock neck and ICON neck?
I used my digital scale and found that my stock neck was 200g, the ICON was 208g. Hardly much of a difference...
Michael Lowenstern put out a video that did a neck comparison using an ICON neck with a Tosca bore and his stock neck came in at 208g and the ICON was 224g.
I am curious about why the Prestige necks are more light weight.

They probably have some extra little bit of metal soldered to them adding an extra 8g.

Yeah, I understand that. Just curious to know if anyone else has weighed their necks. I'm wondering if my scale is off or if the difference between the two really is negligible.

Likely you find variation in the weights of the necks and unless your scales are calibrated variations with the scale weights. If I get the chance I will weigh mine.

Icon neck 202g on the kitchen scale. I can slap on my calibrated force gauge to give you a more accurate figure:) I have taken out the edges of some of the joints to make it smoother internally. The original neck is buried away in the original case.
Pretty much the same as you say.

Thanks for checking back in! Very interesting that the weight should be closer to the stock neck than I anticipated. I guess it doesn't add to the argument that more mass=more vibration going into the instrument. I know that the necks are plated with different metals. I would love to know Buffet's rationale on this subject other than making more money.

I could be wrong. But I feel like there isn't any more variation from any stock neck to other stock necks than to the icons. I'm sure there are people that would passionately disagree with me.
I had an icon and sold it. I preferred my stock. I currently go back and forth between a silver blashaus and the my stock. The blashaus does have more presence and is preferred in the orchestra but I prefer the stock for auditions.
There are certain trade offs to each as is with all equipment.

The icons are made from copper and I would presume the stock neck is plated brass. I can see how the stock neck could potentially cut through more. Mass is a term traditionally applied to a moviing object. The weight and the mass are potentially two different figures😬
I found the icon to be a bit rounder in the top end esp.
Yep a silver blashaus would be nice. I had a silver neck made for my basset horn cost benefit.....
