Using a non-Apple tablet to read music
Author: kdk

I have a number of friends and colleagues who perform from music on their IPads, and they all seem to use forScore to enable them to mark music, edit it, organize it for individual rehearsals and concerts etc.. forScore is apparently available only for iPad, iPhone, Mac and Vision Pro.

I have never adopted Apple/Mac as a computer genre. I use a Windows 11 laptop and an Android (Samsung) tablet for practicing. I still use paper music for rehearsals and concerts.

Is there an equivalent to forScore for either Windows- or (better) Android-based tablets? Obviously, I can read PDFs with Adobe Reader or any number of other PDF readers, but they don't offer the organization and editing features of forScore.

I'm using MobileSheets on my Android tablet. Works great!

Also a MobileSheets user on an Android Tablet.

I have previously happily used Mobilesheets on Windows but my Surface Pro 3 is getting a bit tired. Also the 12" TCL tablet screen is bigger. lighter and the battery lasts for days.

Hi Karl:

In this thread I have attached to one of my posts a narrative of my use of an Amazon Fire and Mobilesheets Pro: a transition I don't regret for a moment.

I too am not an Apple user; not that the platform or ForScore aren't first rate, just that they'll bankrupt you.

There's also this http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=498137&t=498137 concerning my hardware choices, which involves use of an Amazon Fire I got under $100, so cheap compared to Apple solutions that I own two.

Turning the device on its side I get numerous lines of music staff visible at one time, large enough even for old eyes like ours.

There is nothing I've needed of the software that Mobilesheets pro doesn't meet or exceed. The few times I've had to reach out to Michael Zuber, its author my questions were so quickly and fully answered it made my head spin. Working with him is the opposite of transacting at the DMV: he is that conscientious about his product.

(In no way do I financially benefit from any purchase decisions herein.)

Every piece of music I own is on it and backed up to both my PC and the cloud. Getting music into it from printed form is very straight forward. I never need a stand light or wind clips again.

Thanks, all of you. I've downloaded the trial version of MobileSheets and am impressed with it so far. I will upgrade to the paid version once I've found my way around in it a little more.

MobileSheets has been great. I've been using it since he started the app (2012 I think). Highly recommended, and you can get some customizability.

It works on both android and windows. I used to use it on my MS Surface Pro 4.
