 Jazz Clarinet Poll
Author: J. Butler
Date:   2001-03-06 23:29

Okay, in reference to the thread below. IF YOU PLAY JAZZ CLARINET please tell us your setup. This way we can see if "you all" play similar or disimilar setups to our classical counterparts. (student clarinet players will probably play the same.....this question is primarily for pro's, but I don't care who puts in their two cents.) I'll begin:

Clarinet: Selmer BT and Selmer CT

Mouthpiece: Sumner Acousticut #3, refaced (BT) and Kaspar 13 (CT)

Reed: Alexander Superial DC 3.5

Interesting enough to see what everyone is playing but who among those posting above are *really* jazz clarinetists or (like me - can afford only one set up) just play JAZZ with the set up that they happen to have?

Anyway, Is the La Blanc LL known by another name (or out of production) because I don't find it listed on their web site. Anyone know the bore size?

Thanks.

The Leblanc LL is model #1176S. It's still available and is in the Leblanc catalogue.

Looking over the large variety of horns mentioned above, seeing the old Conn post, I dug out an old plastic Director #548325 [not the 44X---- designation like my old Conn bass cl has] and played around a bit on it. No great shucks of a horn, did play loudly and brightly [I like adverbs], reasonably in tune. Most of my mps were slightly larger bore size than the barrel, will check when I can borrow a caliper.Don

Cheap...low quality...sometimes squeaks in altissimo, but that may be my fault...Of course, I'd get better stuff if I had money, but this works for now. It's worked for all my music the last 3 years, and I am shocked that something hasn't broken by now! Oh wait, it has...Recorked summer 2001 after they fell off in jazz improv class.
Ligature replaced with better one after the original one broke.
Thumbrest reatached and new holes drilled for new screws to replace the old replacement screws that didn't fit.
I'll soon be fixing the pad that just fell off.
Any one know when it was made? The serial is 1050132
