So... I apologize for the overreaction of last week.
My professor has assured me that I am not *quite* as terrible as I thought.
The first thing I have decided to tackle this semester is quality of articulation. No longer will I sound like a toddler trying to tongue! Unfortunately, that opened up a can of worms with air support and embouchure, so I have to fix those, too. While trying to work on air support and lung capacity, however, I realized that 1) ASTHMA IS HOLDING ME BACK, and 2) I really should have gone to physical therapy after my pneumothorax. So, now I'm on another inhaler, and just finished a round of steroids that left my immune system barren. Now I am ill. So that's been my last two weeks.
Thank you for the kind words, everyone. I will, in future, not be quite so hard on myself.
Also, I will continue to post updates as requested.
Reese Oller
Clarinet student (performance major at Millikin University)
I can play bass clarinet, Eb clarinet, BBb contra, alto saxophone, bassoon at a decent level, and flute in a pinch.

Stress often triggers attacks of asthma. Starting college is always a major life change. It takes some getting used to. You'll be alright after a short while!

Thanks for the update Reese,
Sounds like you've become more stoical about things, which is probably the best way of settling in and rolling with the punches. You also appear to have some clarity in what to focus on with your playing, so all in all that sounds like a valuable advance.
Well done!

Managing asthma can be difficult, but you are doing a great job of looking after your health. Don’t stress or overexert yourself. Or you can refer to the articles on https://www.asthmaandlung.org.uk to improve.

super20, Advair has become generic-at least in Europe-so that should dramatically lower the price of it.
