doesn't college music school prepare u for professional ensembles?
the reason I ask is because I played bass for 5 years and the wind ensemble/symphonic parts were tough and I had to master the instrument 2 play @ the conductors level of excellence
In the orchestra and in tv/film, I hear all these solos of the low clarinets. My clarinet professor owned a bass but she thought all I played was whole notes ad half notes on the bass parts.
any feelings?

I sure hope that college prepares one for professional ensembles!
I play different types of clarinets in one or two professional groups already (I am a substitute clarinetist/ bass clarinetist) and those bass parts are NOT easy. They are very very fun, though! Not just half and whole notes.

thx for this reply!
I don't mean to repeat, but since u're experienced, the lower clarinets are so dramatic - as I've stated, I notice they're big in broadcast music/opera - why is this so? It's "almost" like they in these mediums r more important than Bb clarinet
