I just acquired a clarinet off of an old lady in Texas and was wondering if somebody could give me a little information on it. I don't know anything about clarinets and after a little research couldn't find much about this brand. The brand was Kohlert and CO. Winnenden and the serial number is 23826. Can anyone help maybe date it at least?
Edit: it also came with a mouthpiece labeled John P. Russo Phil. PA. if there is any information on that?

Hi,
There is a fair amount of stuff on the web. I did a bit of searching a while ago. I can't provide the details. You should be roughly able to date the horn as the went through a number of iterations. I have a covered hole Kohlert. It is a great clarinet.
Cheers

There are extensive discussions on the BB about Kohlert. Their instruments were made in Winnenden, Germany during the final phase of the company's existence, from about 1947 to around 1970.
