ASV Quicksilver – Released 2000 - QS 6242:
-----------------------------------------
"A unique concert that could well be entitled the "Bel Canto Clarinet". It features works for clarinet and orchestra by three Italian composers whose principal fame lies with the operatic stage: Mercadante, Rossini and Donizetti. All three possessed the special gift for creating beautiful lines for their sopranos to sing, and this skill for bel canto writing transferred admirably to the dulcet tones of the clarinet. Surprisingly, no other recordings exist of the two mellifluous clarinet concertos by Mercadante that take up the lion's share of this revelatory disc. Rossini's two dazzling sets of variations have also never lost their appeal, while one could easily imagine Donizetti's equally delightful Clarinet Concertino as aria and cabaletta on the opera stage. The instrumental prima donna who makes her clarinet 'sing' throughout is Joy Farrall"

The Rossini Variations are <b>INCREDIBLE<b>. How is that we haven't heard more of this very special talented Clarinetist?
As a side query from those familiar with Guildhall : How is it that two (2) Clarinet Teachers have nearly the same Last names, but spell them differently. Farrell and Farrall (Julian & Joy). Was their ever a formal relation between these 2 ?
Best,
mw
