I'm looking for information on lower resistance step up clarinets. I have a young high school student with a congenital muscular condition that keeps him in a wheel chair and necessitates a monopod to support the weight of the instrument. It also affects his ability to sustain enough airflow to keep a good sound over the course of a phrase. He's made remarkable progress with this, but it's still his major issue. The family wants to upgrade the instrument and we hope to make things easier, not harder for him with this.
He's currently playing on a Yamaha 200 series with a Debut mouthpiece and medium strength Vandoren traditional reeds. Control of voicing is a physical issue for him as well, so I hope to be able to lower resistance in the instrument rather than the mouthpiece. I hope that makes sense - it's a very particular issue!
