Does anyone know where I can find recordings of the late great clarinet teacher Leon Russianoff?

Good question. I don't believe Russianoff played all that much. His real forte was teaching. His playing career is reported to be modest.

During a master class at a clarinet fest in the early eighties Russianoff was quite open about his limitations as a player. He said that as a student heading off into his first orchestral jobs he was ready for any big, flourishy, rubato clarinet solo that came along. However, he struggled to keep rhythm solid during a rehearsal of Beethoven's Eighth Symphony. Now, was that an accurate self appraisal? All we'll know for sure is that he taught some of the most amazing players placed in orchestras all across the US........and that's a pretty good accomplishment.
