Can anyone identify the piece of music in the SAP software commercials on TV lately? The jazzy clarinet solo?

Actually, there are many ads these days using jazzy clarinet. Most of these tunes are composed specifically for the commercial and are not readily available.

But I cannot help to wonder why, in their wisdom, highly paid (and supposedly expert) marketing specialists have decided that a jazzy clarinet is the best way to support to delivery of a Sales pitch...

Let's start a thread on this one? Why is the clarinet the right instrument to associate with SAP, the German software giant with aggressive objectives for the North-American market?

Well, everyone KNOWS that the sound of the clarinet naturally stimulates all of the body's good hormones, resulting in increased sexual excitement and shopping fever! It's the perfect instrument for subliminal advertising. Jeez, I thought this was common knowledge! Why do you think I took up clarinet in the first place?

Why clarinet music? The product is intangible, so they can only sell a feeling. The music has a carefree, cozy, nostalgic feeling that is very comforting. That nice easy 6/8 swing reminds me of Benny Goodman trio from the 30s. The black and white photography adds to the nostalgic feeling. I guess they're associating a new product with traditional music and photographic style.

I wonder if it's the same ad agency creating all the ads with clarinet solos and B&W photography? I don't remember the products but I like the music.

Sometimes I wonder if they just hire a clarinet to play an audio improv on the spot for those commercials

David, I was at a masterclass where George Silfies said that when he used to do jingles(commecial stuff like this) the people paid him to come in and doodle. So yes, sometimes it can be an improv right on the spot!

Now they're using jazzy clarinet music for a depression medicine commercial. That's depressing! (has anyone heard the clarinet called the "misery stick"?)
