Well, the Baronet is mine (see 6/29 post) and I plan to restore it just because. The tarnish is cleaning up nicely. Pads????
What I want to know is, could anyone tell me how old this thing is based on the serial number, which is D8858?
Would appreciate if anyone knows. Thanks.

None of the serial number lists that I know about list these lesser known horns. So it is very unlikely that you will be able to determine the age.

No hard and fast rules on what kind of pads to use on these . . . white kid leather seems popular though. They may also last longer on a horn that doesn't get the amount of play that a #1 horn would.

The more senior techs who have repadded lots of these when the schools used them generaly recommend leather pads. I did however repad two fo mine with plain ol' fish skin pads and have had no problems yet. Mine do get played a lot. A friend of mine did his with skins but had some tear right away as his tone ports have some rather sharp edges.
