I found the internal pitch (moving from note to note) unacceptable in this horn. For that money buy an older used Leblanc or Bundy from a reputable shop that has overhauled the horn.
Much better for the money.

I don’t recommend Buffet’s student and intermediate models. They are overpriced and underwhelming. For the same money, as Paul suggested, you can buy a better horn. I recommend the Yamaha student line: 250, Advantage, or 450. All superior to Buffet student lines.

I second the recommendations given above.
The Selmer Signet Resonite seldom gets mentioned here, but I find them superior to the B12.
These tend to sell at bargain prices, so you can invest the savings realized where it really counts--on a good mouthpiece--and set yourself up for success.
The Bundy 577 is essentially the same instrument.

Buffet's student models are not that good, a friend of mine got a B12 and was really bad. The sound was kind of dull and it was hard to keep it in pitch, build quality also was not impressive. Thanks to a conservatory collegue I had the chance to try his new Buffet Prodige (new Buffet's entry level horn that replaced the B12), I must admit that with my Vandoren B45 mouthpiece sounded better than the old B12, they improved the build quality too but honestly it wasn't worth the price.
Like the others suggested for less money you can get a Yamaha student model 250/255 or the old 26II (made in Japan). They are pretty good for the price. Solid keywork, durable pads and if you upgrade the standard Yamaha 4C/6C mouthpiece with a better one (vandoren B40, B45...etc) they have a nice sound/pitch. When you will want to move to a professional horn you can still keep it as 2nd horn for playing outdoor or in marching bands.

Yuck.
For new, the best student models are the Yamaha YCL-255 and the Backun Alpha.
The used recommendations above are excellent. I played on a Selmer Signet 100 for a long time and recently they are found online very cheap and play far better than their price would indicate!
