I have a Buffet Bb clarinet which was bought for me some years ago, it was only taken out of its box a handful of times so the condition is like new. I was wondering how I would identify what model it is if anyone could help. I am aware it is an R13 but am unsure whether it is just a basic or maybe a prestige?? Any help and clarification would be much appreciated! I’ve attached photos of the barrel for anyone who may be able to assist - thank you.

You'll need to provide an image of the front of the top joint.

Google "Buffet R13" and "Buffet R13 Prestige" and look at photos. The most obvious difference is the shiny badge at the top front saying Prestige. If it's a Prestige and basically new it would have it. If it fell (pretty rare even on old and used clarinets) then it would be obvious too that something was there. There are some other differences.

If it was a Prestige model, the text on the back of the barrel would say P13, not R13 - which is what you have. Possible that the barrel has been swapped, I suppose, but this suggests it's more likely you have a basic R13.

Prestige models will have metal tipped tenons.

It's also worth noting barrels are often switched about (particularly for third party after market ones). Only the top and bottom joints will tell you what instrument you have.
