 Vintage Buffet alto identification
Author: notthatricardo

I've been offered a vintage Buffet alto clarinet but am confused as to its age.

The serial no. is 190xx but, other than the double register key, it appears to be a completely different design from a Buffet recently sold on eBay with an almost identical serial no. (just 2 away) and dated to 1936.

The one I've been offered is full plateau, keyed to low E (only 4 right-hand pinky keys) and has a left-hand Ab/Eb key.

The eBay alto certainly looked genuine (definitely very old) so I wonder about the provenance of the much newer looking one I'm considering.

The seller (a store) is unable to advise but I have some pics if someone is willing to discuss in private.

Thanks!
