 "Schools" of music
Author: Erika

My last clarinet teacher talked about the different methods of teaching and the different ways of approaching clarinet playing as the different "schools." For example, he would compare types of sound with the German "school" of playing, or the English "school" of playing. I was just wondering what the different "schools" are, and what the characteristics of the different schools are.

Check http://www.ocr.sneezy.org for an article or two by Dan Leeson about national schools of music.

The general school of thought should be the best sound for the best situation. German sound appeals in Germany, The Boston sound in Boston blah blah. Find your own sound.
