I recently purchased a few boxes of Gonzalez #3 regular cut reeds and they were awful compared to the 1999-2004 cane years I've been using. They were just dead and soaking did not improved them. A friend suggested humidifying them for a week or two. I built a humidifier, put cotton in the bottom, added some water plus a bit of hydrogen peroxide to prevent mold and threw a few reeds in. After 5 or 6 days the reeds are vastly improved and playable. Have any of you had similar problems with the newer regular cut Gonzalez reeds (the ones that come 10 in a red box)?

I bought a box of Gonzales reeds and was terribly disappointed in the way they played. I used to love playing on them. I ended up giving them away. I wish I'd seen your suggestion a month ago!!!
