Hi
I'm doing a research on reform clarinets. If possible I would like to have a chance to try out the Yamaha Reform clarinets and I'm wondering where can I find them (and perhaps buy them if I can save up that much). I have approached International Musical Supplies but they are selling them as a set, I would like to have the Bb only if possible.
Would also like to ask if anyone has experiences with these clarinets and if so please provide feedback in this forum.
Thank you very much!

I once tried one in Howarths in London. Not impressed. Very lumpy key action.

Thanks Graham
Just wondering, are the key action as "lumpy" as their Custom CX, CS series clarinets? I've tried the CX and find them "lumpy" too.

Ken -
A switch to a Reform Boehm instrument is not trivial. They have the French fingering system, but blow completely differently. I tried several Yamahas a few years ago, including a pair that belonged to the head of Yamaha in the U.S. and were in tip-top condition They were simply unplayable with my mouthpiece, with an impossible amount of physical resistance to blowing. The bore is much closer to the German shape than the French, and you need a completely different mouthpiece and reed to play them even a little bit.
I think most players in the Netherlands use the Reform Boehm instruments. Several of them have posted here, so I'll leave further descriptions to them.
Best regards.

Go straight to aan Oehler dont waste your time. The fingerign change is not difficult and the reforms tend to use a similar 3rd register fingering as the Oehler.
