 Eddie Daniels I and II

Whats the difference between these two ligatures? Are they the same just ones a newer model? I bid on a one on Ebay, and it said that it wasn't the same, but the description sounds the same as the one for the Eddie Daniels II ligature in the catalogue.

The original 1R-ED has a set of two flat non-changeable metal plates where the reed touches the ligature. It also has plastic rails running the length (up and down) fo the ligature that keep the fabric from touching the mouthpiece.

The 1R-ED2 removes the plastic rails (so the fabric touches the mouthpiece, like the regular rovner models), and has a metal clip that holds one of two metal plates of differing thickness that hold down the reed.

I've used both models on clarinet and alto saxophone and they generally behave the same.

I use the Eddie Daniels II, excellent tone, easy articulation!

I also like the Eddie Daniels II. But, my main ligature is the BG Super Revelation.

That's not the difference as I think about the two that I've had. The ED I had FABRIC/rubber rails on the side, and the metal plates were glued on. (inferior product). The ED II has plastic rails and the metal plates are fastened on. Much higher quality. I could be wrong, but those are the two ligatures I remember having and I remember one of the plates coming off because they were glued.

Go for the ED II product. It's much higher in quality!

Perhaps some of my description wasn't easy to understand (describing those "rails" is a pain =). Here are two images of the ligatures being discussed, taken from various marketing material.

To the best of my knowledge the 1R-ED model is no longer being manufactured by Rover, and the 1R-ED2 model is now available in almost any size (I have one on my clarinet, one on a hard rubber alto sax mouthpiece, and one on a smaller Runyon metal-size mouthpiece).

I have the ED-II and my only complaint is that the cover does not fit.

I used an EDII for about a year, until i discovered the Peter Spriggs, and then foun my Kaspar that i use now. It's overall, a very nice ligature. Darkens the sound a little (not as much as totally fabric ligs), while still maintaining good articulation and a focus to the sound.
