I play the bass clarinet at my school and have been playing on their instrument. My parents decided to buy me one and we just picked up a King Marigaux Bass Clarinet for 2000 (used but in wonderful condition) Could some one please tell me if this was a good buy? The serial number is 210 or 270 but anyway a more interesting fact is that it was played in the 41st army reserve band before i bought it thanks!

Well, Ted . . . you've got it, and it should be a great horn. You paid less than going out and buying a new pro quality wooden bass clarinet. Take some comfort in that.
Was it a bargain? Buffets and Selmers would probably go for more . . . Marigauxs are much less well known but very high quality . . . possibly in the same category as the other two. It sounds like you paid full retail price for a used pro bass clarinet. At least you didn't pay high dollar for junk, which many unsuspecting parents have done.
And incidently . . . I got a King Marigaux Bb Clarinet from the 41st Army Band also. Mine's great . . . hope the same for yours'.

Take good care of it. It can serve you for many years with proper maintainance and cleaning. I still use my old Freeman bought new in '61.
