While shopping for one of these I found a listing in Freeclassifieds.com - Phoenix AZ for $2400. It was listed in Aug 2018. A similar listing was in Dallas a few months earlier. Same price but different photos as I recall.
I made contact and got this reply:

Greetings,
It is BBb. I am a private owner. The problem is that I came to Poland, Europe. I was in the States for only three months with my work and I had to deliver it here in Lodz because I didn't have a safe place or a trusted person there to help me sell it even if I had to leave. I will go back to Croatia in 2 months as I am a professor there, but until then I will stay here.
I hope you don't mind, but I will gladly pay the shipping fees if you want to buy it. I will also check for a good escrow company to make this transaction a safe one (my brother already told me about a good escrow company, but I need to check this myself). Is this ok with you?
Sincerely Yours,
Dubravka Miljkovic

My initial searches found that this is a real person in Poland and Croatia. But nothing at a US university.
Then I found a virtually identical email response posted on a vintage Martin guitar forum from July 2018. https://umgf.com/warning-freeclassifieds-com-1936-d18-for-usd6-000--t193083.html
A follow up email today offered a “Certa Escrow” service. I was told to do a search as they have good reviews. So there is a lot of name spoofing here. I would expect a future email to offer a bank routing number for a payment to their private account instead of a legit escrow service.

I remember reading about a very similar scam a couple of years back, not sure if it was on here or somewhere else. The seller was on Craigs List, selling IIRC a mint condition Selmer Mk 6 Tenor.

This is why I will never buy anything online if I can't use either PayPal or my Discover card. 99 percent of the time if someone will only accept payment trough a wire transfer, money order, ect... it's a scam.
This also happens on ebay and Aliexpress, where people post fake listings and require buyers to make a payment through a wire transfer outside of the website. I've even had some of my own listings copied for these types of scams.

Scammers are no rocket scientists and it usually just takes a couple of mails to figure out.

Imagine asking them about the left pinky configuration and the thumb keys. If they haven't held one, they will have no clue.
