Hi Everyone,
So, I'm looking for a case for my basset horn, and trying to see what my options are.
Option 1: Wiseman case, but I don't foresee myself spending that much money on it.
Option 2: Reed and Squeak Cases, but I wonder how well they protect (if anyone has any input, please comment!).
Option 3:Converting an old case myself. A friend who is a repair tech, has a bunch of cases laying around, and I have the fabric that I would need, just need to buy the foam. If you have any recommendations for this, I'd be happy to hear them also.
Thoughts, Ideas? Got one for sale? (I know that last one is truly random).
The instrument is a Leblanc Basset Horn. I purchased it from Quinn The Eskimo.

I have a Reed and Squeak basset horn case and like it a lot!
The only issue is that the upper and lower joints of the instrument sit in large rectangular openings rather than in fitted compartments. You have to use some of the soft bumpers that come with the case to ensure that these joints have a good fit in the case and don't move when you carry it around. This is easily accomplished with the lower joint but a bit more difficult with the upper joint. It does take a bit of experimentation but can be solved. Despite this, it's a great case that is super light but has a lot of extra storage room for your music, reeds, neckstrap, and so on. I carried it as a backpack for almost a month in Europe and had no issues with it whatsoever.

Thanks Liam,
Does the case have a hard shell around it?
And are there enough of the pillows to secure the top joint, or did you have to come up with your own solution?

I also have the Reed and Squeak case - bought for my alto, but I also use it sometimes for my Selmer basset horn, as it has space for music and backpack straps, unlike the original Selmer case. The fact that it’s not moulded to a specific instrument makes it more versatile. Liam’s comments are spot on. The case has hard sides and is well padded so I have no worries about protection. It came with enough inserts to customise the sections to properly hold the instrument in place, but I believe R&S are open to providing more/different inserts if asked.

What I ended up using is one small buffer at each end of the lower joint (which is very secure anyways because the case is basically the length of the joint), and then a few bigger ones as well as my mouthpiece in a soft case from Reed and Squeak to make up a lot of the space left around the upper joint. As Hurstfarm mentioned, the case has hard sides and a lot of padding; I've also never worried about damage to the instrument in the case.
I've attached an image of the inside of my case for reference. Hope this helps!
