I'm going to buy the newest edition of the Celebrated Method, and I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on the paperback vs. spiral bound versions. Since it's such a thick volume, I'm concerned the paperback will be hard to use, but my preferred source of sheet music doesn't carry the spiral bound. Any insight on this?
Also, what are some other must-have etude and method books for clarinet? I'm a doubler looking to get more serious about clarinet and I want to expand my library. I already have the Rose 32.

Do you mean the H. Klosé Celebrated Method? I don't have any idea of the quality of the bindings these days, but I still use my paperback copy of volume 2, which I've owned since around 1962. The pages are yellowing and the cover is torn, but it still holds together.
My experience is that the holes in spiral bindings tend to tear and the individual pages start to come out. Also the spiral itself starts to work out of the top holes and sometimes the ends become bent. My copy of the Bonade excerpts, which is spiral-bound, has deteriorated considerably in this way. Also the spiral spine is wider than the book, which can make it harder to store neatly.
My copy is actually sewn. Each folio is stitched and then the paper cover is glued over the individual sewn folios. If the paperback binding is done well, my experience is that it's much more durable. On the other hand, if they've gone too cheap with the glue or the whole binding depends on glue without any stitching (like cheap paperback "trade" books), pages can start falling out.
If you buy the paperback edition and it does start to come apart, you can always punch your own holes and put it in a loose-leaf binder, or go to an office supply store and have them put a spiral spine on it. If you want to bind anything else, you can buy your own machine to punch the holes and insert the spine.

You cannot go wrong with Opperman's Daily Studies Book 1 and 2. Many times (in my younger days) players have asked, "How'd you do that?" and I would answer "The Opperman Daily Studies".

Yes, I'm referring to the H. Klosé Celebrated Method. I'll take your suggestion to buy the paperback and bind it myself later, if necessary. It's a bit cheaper, anyway.
I'll take a look at the Opperman studies, as well. Thank you!

Hello.
i have had Three copies of this all them of them had orange papper covers.The first one ended up falling appart as did the second one.
I still have the third one but i put a spiral binder.It is allot stronger than the glued version.
