Do any of you have any experience in trying to restore a pad's moisture and suppleness with any type of oil? I oiled an old, dried out pad on my bass and it seems to be working so far.

Hi,
I have had good luck with Tone Woodwind All Pad & Bore Formula. I got mine from Meridian Winds on recommendation of owner/master tech Eric Satterlee. Directions on how to treat pads are on the can.

I would just replace the pad. Not all pads will respond the same. Pads usually have a coating. Older (untreated) pads and untreated bassoon pads might benefit from oil treatment

Thanks for the info guys ! Of course I should replace the pad. I just want to get the most from these before I get an overhaul.

I've used a neutral shoe cream on old, dry pads. It wasn't a complete fix, but it made the instrument playable, which is what I wanted to assess if it was worth buying. It was.
