I have read every previous article I can find on the BBoard about Evette & Schaeffer Master Models. Most of the previous discussions have been about the relationship (or lack of relationship) to the Buffet R13. I know that the R13 which debuted in 1955 is different than the Master Model I have which was made in either 1951 or 1952.
I am attaching 4 pictures. My questions are:
(1) What is the difference between an E&S Master Model made in 1951 and a 1951 Buffet pre-R13?
(2) The barrel on my clarinet is not the original. It says 2mm.5 or 2mm.S. I'm not sure which. There is no other marking on the barrel. Does anyone have an idea what make it is?
I just got it back this week from an overhaul. I bought it about a month ago and took it right away for a much needed overhaul. Thanks for any light you can shed on my two questions.

I have one of those barrels in plastic! It says “2mm S.” and measures 64.3 mm. I was wondering what it was too...and what the marking means...maybe ”2mm shorter than 66mm?”

Once I bought a E & S Master Model that looked very much like an R 13. However, the low register was low in pitch and dull sounding. After undercutting many tone holes a little bit, it came up to pitch and brightened in the low register and the upper register was still ok in pitch and sound.

Some E&S Master Models were evidently just good Evette Schaeffers. Supposedly some E&S Master Models were R13 rejects which were then labelled E&S Master Models. Whereas the good Evette Schaeffers will have characteristic E&S keywork (right hand sliver key has longer shaft and arm straight down to the pad cup), the R13 rejects would have an R13 right hand sliver key with a curved arm, and cutouts in the wood under the crows feet of the right hand pinkie keys.
As to whether one of the other is better, I can't comment much, as I have not played a pre-1955 ES.

By doing a google search on 2mm.5 and 2mm.S I did find several references to other barrels with those designations. Some were wood and others plastic. Mine is wood. There is no other lettering on mine so I don't know what make it is. It measures 65MM.
