Chris
Please put me out of my misery ! Where on Earth do you get all this information ? I have been following your responses to many questions on the bboard, for years, and I am amazed at the information you give us. I feel like a dimwit !
Bless you
Alan

That's from a Gunther Joppig book - 'The Oboe and the Bassoon'.
It's essentially a rackett but with the bore in helical form instead of the usual uppy-downy-U-bendy configuration (I'm sure there's a correct technical term for that).
