A friend of mine is trying to sell their clarinet and I'm wondering for some more information about it. It says made in Germany and a serial number? above it that is 921242

That will be an instrument built for Buffet by Schreiber in Germany.
It should have aan identification name stamped or stencilled on the upper joint but if this is missing then -
If a plastic / synthetic body it will be a B12 - the student level clarinet

If a wood body then it will be an E11 - the entry level intermediate clarinet

So neither model is a "true" Buffet, but was made for them, with their name on it, to provide a lower cost offering for students in the earlier playing stages.

Don't bother looking at serial number lists as the Buffet ones only cover the instruments actually made by them in France.
