 "Academy Model"

I read (way) too much stuff about clarinets, and I remember reading where Alvin Swiney wrote that "According to Mr. Moennig the bad [Buffet] bore clarinets (39,000 to 41,000), Were labeled "Academy Model" and sold as student level clarinets until they were depleted." I just found one! COOL! It's true!

For this kind of money, you could buy a modern horn with fresh pads out of John Butler or Dave Speigelthal's stable.

Just because the mechanics are in place, doesn't make for either a good playing horn or a good deal.

What brought THAT on? I was just saying---wow---what an interesting (not necessarily "fabulous") piece of clarinet history. I'm not selling it. Geez.
