You really do have to watch out for those rowdy cellos. They are known to be a problem on flights. Violins and violas...... much better behaved. Euphoniums and tubas have also been known to create problems on some flights, so beware of them as well. Clarinets and flutes tend to travel well with others, but only after TSA pat-downs and electronic screenings.

In an ideal world the pilot and flight crew would be well enough educated musically by strong school music programs to know the difference between a cello and a bass.

If you throw a cello and a bass into a dumpster they make quite different sounds. And as for flight safety, you should hear see a piccolo can do after too many free drinks.

Free drinks to a piccolo player? Since when do THEY travel first class?
Back to the flight safety angle: I would be highly suspicious of any person aboard an aircraft who claimed to be a professional alto clarinet player.
