 High C on effer
Author: 2cekce 2017

Has anyone experienced any trouble with getting high C (two leds) or
At times the B just below to speak, particularly when slurring from the
12th below, the C being the worst one.

My setup is Amati pro 3, 5rv mp, vandoren opt lig using vertical bar plate
And vandorens 2.5. Also of the two barrels I use the shorter one most of the
Time, not sure if that makes a difference. I could not find any past posts on
This so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It's partly a matter of "voicing." If you tend to play with your tongue low and a large opening inside your mouth (Ahh or Oh syllable) it can be harder to get it to speak than if you form more of an "eee" position with your tongue.

But I wonder if a 2.5 reed on a VD 5RV might be just a little too soft to respond cleanly up there. I've never played a 5RV on an Eb, but I have on a Bb clarinet. An Eb clarinet can be more resistant than a Bb, so maybe the 2.5 is right, but you might try a #3 and see what happens.

I use a 5RV on my Eb and need at least a 3 to get it to really work up there. I usually play on a lightly-sanded 3 1/2 Vandoren blue box and I have had no trouble.

Try moving your 2 1/2 up verrry slightly past the tip. If it responds even slightly better, move up a size.

The Fobes extension appreciably increases the response in that register.
