Does the "competitive-ness" of all-state bands differ from state to state?

how does massachusetts All-state and district compare to New York's area-all state and all state?

which in the country is considered most competitive?

I would have to say that in regard to HS marching band that parts of (if not all of) Texas have the most intense programs I've ever seen or heard of.

The sit down bands in Texas aren't too shabby either. Go to any region band concert in Texas, and you will hear the guest clinician tell the audience that the Texas region bands are better than any other state's all-state band. Alfred Reed made that statement when he conducted my region band several years ago. Needless to say, the Texas All-State groups are even more impressive.

Careful.

Replace Texas with California, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, etc. . Guest clinicians aren't above making statements like a rock band would ("The audiences in _____ are the greatest in the world! Hello, ____!!).

I thought the Georgia All State Band was the best ?

Oh well, guest clinicians always say things like that.

Someone once told me there was such a thing as the SouthEast Tri-State Band . It was supposed to include NC,SC, & GA and be more competitive that all state.

Not sure if its true.

Maine has some competitive sections, but not for the bass clarinets. Every year that I have attended we have had a good program and a good conductor.

It is generally recognized that the Texas All-State ensembles are some of the best all-state groups in the country. Having played in one of them before coming to Interlochen Arts Academy I can tell you that their quality is very high.
