Wow, here's one where I can really add some information.
I worked with my teacher on a solo titled "Roaming River" by this composer. This particular solo was published by BOURNE, Inc. of New York City, and bears a copyright date of 1952. I believe the level of difficulty to be NYSSMA Grade 3 or 4.
I was also told that Maurice C. Whitney was a native of the Glens Falls area of New York State.

Maurice Whitney
Born in Glenn Falls, New York, 1909
Maurice Whitney earned degrees form Ithaca College and New York University. He attended Teachers College, Columbia University, and the Westminister Choir School, and the New England Conservatory. A performer, a conductor, and an arranger of music for dance and theather orchestras, he served as choir director and organist in churches, taught in school systems and colleges, and served in positions of leadership for music education. His works include theory and band texts and scores for small ensembles, band and choir.
Whitney's professional honors include a citation from Ithaca College for outstanding work in music education, New York State Teacher of the Year award, and a honorary doctorate from Elmira College. He is retired and lives in Sun City Center, Florida.
