 Rhapsody in Blue....again!
Author: Abbie

I'm hoping to play Rhapsody for my senior recital, but I can't find the music for just a solo clarinet and piano....does such a thing exist, or will I have to use my arranging skills (or lack thereof)?!!!
Thanks!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and question your choice of recital material. Rhapsody in Blue is really a Piano solo -- it just happens to have a really neat intro for clarinet. There is no arrangement for solo clarinet and piano that I'm aware of. If you're looking for something that's a little more modern and peppy, take a look at the Bernstien Sonata for clarinet (it was his very first published work).

While I do realize that my choice in music may be a little odd (at least for this piece!), there IS a method to my madness. Last fall, I was having a tough time with my music and almost gave it up. Around the same time, my uncle passed away from a brain tumor. He was one of the only people I knew who understood my feelings of music. After his death, I found a letter he had written to me and it made me realize why I was in music. I'm double majoring in music performance for him. As a tribute to him, I had wanted to play one of his favorite songs, Rhapsody in Blue. (The rest of the recital music IS pretty standard, though!) Well, I tried to

I'm not sure of the publisher, but I have what you're looking for. It's very old (the pages are a bit flimsy) but it is an arrangement written for solo clarinet with piaon accompaniment.

E-mail me.

Abbie -
My apologies if I offended you by questioning your choice of recital music. You have obviously put a lot of thought into your program. I wish you the best in your musical endeavors.

The edition is from New World Music in NYC. It was arranged by Gregory Stone for clarinet and piano, and is only the "finale", not the entire piece.
