I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on the new virtuoso mouthpiece. It is apparently his "best" mouthpiece and I'm considering buying it but I really want to know what others think of it. Thanks!

I don't think you can really go wrong with Walter's mouthpieces. I have a K13* on my Bb clarinet, and the Lawrie Bloom model on my bass.

Walter does great work and all of his mouthpieces have been high quality. I don't see how this new one would not be good. Whether it's the one you will choose against others in the same quality class, only you can decide.

Many like Walter's pieces. Whether it is the "best" for you is something you will have to determine. It all depends on your playing style, taste and preferences.

I use the Virtuoso on my bass and love it. But like others have said, you have to find the MP that works for you.

I've come across a few and the tip openings were a big too open for me as a double lip player. His rails were very well balanced.
I'm not sure where he gets his blanks. The really old ones called Ideal were pretty darn good and consistent, but that company is out of biz.

I have his virtuoso bass clarinet mouthpiece and I love it in the high register. Ultimately, the best thing to do is to contact him (ClarinetXpress) and get in touch to see the best idea of what works for you. Not every mouthpiece is for everyone, and he has a bunch of other offerings in his lineup.

Last I knew , Walter used Zinner blanks. I have not seen him use the Ideal blanks, although I recall Vitas Krass using them.

I have never used Ideal blanks. I have used blanks from jj Babbitt and, of course, from Zinner.
