Was asked by the former Principal Oboist of the Navy Band for a friend on his:
Has an old Selmer (guy played early 60's) Wooden Clarinet marked:
“Henri Selmer Paris France P5548 and it also says Depose on it”
Any info on that model? Worth reconditioning?

Depose means "made in". This clarinet with a P series serial number is almost certainly a Centered Tone, similar to what Benny and Artie played. Good enough for those guys is good enough for me. See the unnamed web site for prices on similar models. I just bought one in good condition for $675.00.

Centered Tones are my favourite clarinets. I've owned N, P, Q and R series CTs and while they're all different from one another, they're all great instruments and you can't go wrong with them if they're the type of clarinet you like.
I recently bought a no-name CT from the eBay seller in Portugal as it came with a BT bell which I wanted (and swapped it with a CT bell - see attachment) and I want to restore and turn it into a loaner instrument when someone needs a decent clarinet to use while I'm working on theirs.
The distinguishing feature with CT and Series 9 clarinets is the large hexagonal speaker bush, so you can identify them by that (along with the serial number letter prefix) if they don't have 'Centered Tone' or 'Series 9/Series 9*' stamped on the top joint.

Speaking of Series 9, here is my current favorite. This Series 9 has outstanding wood with virtually no grain and plays as good as it looks. Serial number is SXXXX from 1961. Just finished complete restoration with cork pads on upper and leather pads on lower joint.
