The funeral for Pete Fountain will be this Wednesday, August 17, at St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Visitation and eulogies will be from 9 a.m to 11:30 am, and a Roman Catholic requiem mass will follow, beginning at noon.
After the mass, a traditional New Orleans second-line parade will proceed from the cathedral to the Montelone Hotel on Royal St. All these events are open to the public.

Thanks for letting us know. I would surely be there I was local. Such a loss. This last week I've been enjoying making sure all of my students know who he was.

The students might enjoy listening to Fountain play the blues. To the memory of both Irving Fazola and Leon Ropollo is Fountain's rendition of "Five Point Blues."
The playing here--with special attention to the "stop time cadence" from 1:50 to 2:10--is strictly to the New Orleans manner born; no Goodman influence in this one--all Lorenzo Tio, Barney Bigard, Irving Fazola, Ropollo, and many named and forgotten others who created that style marching up and down the cobblestones of Rampart St in the first decades of the 20th century:

I showed them a clip of him on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and also one of him playing at the Super Bowl. I mostly had just my younger students this week as the high schoolers had band camp and were busy learning field show music and reviewing which foot might be their left.
