I acquire a Buffet Crampon about 45 years ago through my Clarinet teacher, who is trustworthy and ultra talented - amazing resume of performances. The clarinet has a serial number that I cannot source through the usual websites - #84791. When I bought it second hand (apparently about 10 years old at the time). I was told that only 8 instruments like it came into the US the year is was made and the previous owner got second pick. I'm curious more than anything else. I just began playing again after a long break. The sound is a sweet as ever. Thanks for any help.

Thousands of R13s came into the US during that period. Whoever told you different was smoking something illegal or trying to convince you that it had special value that it doesn't have.

Thanks. I bought it for $300 back then. I didn't question "the Story" as it was an upgrade from a plastic Bundy. :-) The previous owner played for the SF Symphony -- this I am quite certain -- so I think I'm the one who may have been smoking something back then and got the more intriging story wrong. I never researched it, but got curious today when I pulled it out after many years and played along with some Music Minus One standards. Thanks again.
